Syllabus · Fall 2026 founding cohort

Class by class.

Every session runs live on Google Meet, Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:00 to 7:30 pm Pacific. Each one opens with both tracks together, then each track works on its own with a session lead. No class Wednesday, November 25. Demo Day is Saturday, December 19, 10:00 am to noon Pacific, and parents are invited.

Research track

Students ask one question about how AI models behave, test it fairly, and score every answer themselves.

Mon Nov 9Ask a question you can test.
Wed Nov 11Pilot run: your first real answers, read and scored.
Mon Nov 16The baseline, run three times.
Wed Nov 18Your first result, in one sentence.
Mon Nov 23Change one thing.
Mon Nov 30Is the gap real, or just noise?
Wed Dec 2Study the failures.
Mon Dec 7The lab notebook and the chart.
Wed Dec 9Write it so someone else could rerun it.
Mon Dec 14Revise and rehearse.
Wed Dec 16Demo Day prep, a short session for finals week.
Sat Dec 19Demo Day: a five-minute talk, given live, with questions.

Students can pick one of three starter projects or bring their own question with the same shape:

Explain firstDoes a model solve more word problems if it explains its steps first?
Honest when it does not knowWhich model says "I don't know" instead of making something up?
Small model, big modelCan a small model score short essays like a big one if you show it examples?

They finish with a checked lab notebook, a chart, a one-page write-up with steps anyone can rerun, and a recorded Demo Day talk. A write-up is student work, not a published paper.

Business track

Students find one real person with one real problem, build something that helps with AI tools, and put it in front of people.

Mon Nov 9Pick the person you want to help.
Wed Nov 11Ask questions that get the truth.
Mon Nov 16Find the problem worth solving.
Wed Nov 18Build version one with AI.
Mon Nov 23Watch someone use it.
Mon Nov 30Launch night: the product page goes live.
Wed Dec 2Read your first signals.
Mon Dec 7Test an offer.
Wed Dec 9Make the one change that matters.
Mon Dec 14Build your pitch.
Wed Dec 16Rehearsal, a short session for finals week.
Sat Dec 19Demo Day: pitch it live.

A product page goes public only after a parent has seen it and sent a written okay. Students talk only with people a parent has okayed, and no student page takes money.

Every week

About five hours in total: three live, two to three on the project at any time. Every session is recorded for enrolled students, and parents get a short weekly update.
